Prasenjit Sarma Brings Global Recognition to Assam With Global Teacher Award 2025

Assam has earned international recognition in the field of education as Prasenjit Sarma, a dedicated Teacher-cum-Block Resource Person (BRP) from Barpeta, received the prestigious Global Teacher Award 2025. The award was presented on 29 November 2025 during the Global Education Fest 2025–26 at the Radisson Blu Hotel in New Delhi. Conferred by AKS Education Awards, the honour celebrates outstanding educators whose work has created a measurable impact on learning at a global level.

This moment marked a milestone not only in Prasenjit Sarma’s professional journey but also for Assam’s education community. His path began in 2012 after qualifying the Government of Assam’s Teacher Eligibility Test (TET). From the very beginning, Sarma stood out for his student-centric approach, driven by innovation, inclusivity, and the belief that technology should empower rather than replace teachers.

In 2017, Sarma gained national attention by creating India’s first smart classroom for primary schools through crowdfunding. At a time when digital learning infrastructure was still limited in many regions, this initiative demonstrated his ability to translate vision into action. The project became a blueprint for accessible innovation in government schools.

Over the years, Sarma has emerged as a leading voice in Artificial Intelligence-driven education. His work focuses on practical classroom solutions that reduce teacher workload while enhancing learning outcomes. Among his most impactful innovations is the AI-powered Lesson Plan Creator, which is now used by educators worldwide and generates over 16,000 lesson plans daily. This tool has helped teachers focus more on engagement and creativity rather than repetitive planning.

Another major contribution is the AI Teacher app, which allows students to learn any subject from anywhere. The platform has already benefited more than 55 lakh learners globally, making quality learning resources accessible beyond geographical and economic barriers. Additional tools such as the AI Proofreading Assistant, AI Writing Assistant, and the NIPUN Mitra AI Chatbot have received international appreciation for their simplicity, relevance, and real-world classroom application.

Sarma’s impact extends well beyond technology. He has played a vital role in community engagement, child protection, school safety, and disaster management initiatives across Assam. During the COVID-19 lockdown, he coordinated district-wide online classes in Barpeta and Bajali, ensuring continuity of learning during one of the most challenging periods in modern education. He also led ‘Utkarsh’, a large-scale teacher training program that enabled educators to adapt quickly to digital teaching methods.

His school-based innovations, including Hanging Libraries, Hanging Gardens, BaLA Painting, Adarsh Avivawak Program, and Teachers’ Parliament, have strengthened school management systems and enriched learning environments. These initiatives have been widely appreciated by education stakeholders and policy bodies.

An accomplished author, Prasenjit Sarma has published several influential educational books, including a teacher’s handbook on Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN), a guide on Artificial Intelligence and Robotics for Classes IX and X, resources on child psychology, and multiple student workbooks used internationally.

In addition to the Global Teacher Award 2025, Sarma has received the Best Teacher Award from Assam Down Town University, the Sewa Ratna Award 2024, and the Best Teacher Award 2024 by PB Foundation. Earlier this year, he was also nominated for the National Teachers’ Award by the Government of India.

This global recognition stands as a proud moment for Assam and India, reinforcing Prasenjit Sarma’s place among the most innovative and future-ready educators shaping classrooms worldwide.
