On Friday, March 28, 2025, a federal judge temporarily barred the Trump administration from deporting individuals who have exhausted all legal appeals to nations other than their own without first being given the opportunity to claim that doing so would endanger their safety.
People who have final orders of removal must have “a meaningful opportunity” to argue that being deported to a third country poses a level of danger that warrants protection, according to U.S. District Judge Brian E. Murphy’s ruling. Until the case moves on to the next round of arguments, his order is still in force.
