Capital expenditures are not subject to financial constraints; FM Sitharaman is the government fiscal prudence company.

Despite last year’s national elections, the central government’s capital expenditures have increased over the years, including in FY25, according to Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, who stated on Tuesday that there is no fiscal constraint in this regard.

“The NDA government’s economic discipline is unwavering, representative of actual circumstances, and characterized by open and honest fiscal management,” Sitharaman continued in a social media post.

In a social media post, the minister stated that the Center’s capital expenditures for FY24 and FY18, which ended on March 31, were revised to ₹9.5 trillion and ₹10.18 trillion, respectively.

This blatantly shows a 7.3% rise. The federal government’s capital expenditures have not been reduced,” the minister stated.

Sitharaman made this statement in response to P. Chidambaram, the former finance minister and leader of the Congress party, who claimed on social media platform X that the Union government’s FY25 capital expenditure budgeted estimate (BE) was ₹11.11 trillion but was later changed to ₹10.18 trillion in the revised estimates (RE).
