ZT Systems, a top supplier of AI and general-purpose computational infrastructure for hyperscale providers, has been successfully acquired by AMD. By fusing ZT Systems’ cutting-edge rack-scale systems with AMD’s CPU, GPU, and networking silicon, this acquisition is anticipated to accelerate the development of end-to-end AI solutions. The action is expected to improve AMD’s scalable cloud-optimized AI infrastructure.
Through the acquisition, AMD will be able to provide robust AI solutions that combine state-of-the-art hardware with open-source AMD ROC software. Customers will gain a major competitive edge in the quickly changing AI market thanks to this integration, which is intended to shorten the time needed to develop and implement cluster-level data center AI systems.
“With the rapid pace of innovation in AI, reducing the end-to-end design and deployment time of cluster-level data center AI systems will be a significant competitive advantage for our customers,” said Forrest Norrod, Executive Vice President of AMD’s Data Center Solutions business unit. He continued, “Acquiring ZT Systems is a significant milestone in our AI strategy to deliver inferencing solutions and leadership training that are ready-to-deploy at scale and optimized for our customers’ unique environments.”
AMD is already in negotiations with possible partners to purchase ZT Systems’ US-based data center infrastructure manufacturing company by 2025, and ZT Systems’ skilled design teams will join AMD’s Data Center Solutions business segment. By taking this step, AMD will be able to further improve its AI capabilities and provide infrastructure solutions that are optimized to meet the increasing demands of AI.
Former ZT Systems President Doug Huang will become Senior Vice President of Data Center Platform Engineering at AMD, and former ZT Systems Founder and CEO Frank Zhang will join AMD as Senior Vice President of ZT Manufacturing. Both will strive to speed up the creation and large-scale implementation of data center AI technologies under the direction of Forrest Norrod.
“We welcome Frank Zhang, Doug Huang, and the brilliant ZT Systems team to AMD. By working together, we will give clients speed to market and options, enabling them to make investments in strategic areas where they want to set their AI services apart,” Norrod said.
AMD has led the way in high-performance computing, graphics, and visualization technologies for more than 50 years, influencing advancements that affect billions of people globally.
