Tech billionaire Elon Musk shared a fascinating video of Japanese astronaut Koichi Wakata enjoying a solo game of baseball while floating in microgravity inside the JAXA (Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency) module of the International Space Station (ISS).
In the clip originally posted on X by Wakata, the astronaut is seen effortlessly pitching, hitting, as well as catching the ball, owing to the physics of zero gravity.
“It’s baseball season – the @MLB season opener is kicking off in Japan. During Expedition 68 I played a solo game of baseball. In microgravity you don’t need a whole team, you can play all of the positions,” Wakata captioned the post.
Koichi Wakata retired from JAXA in 2024 after a spaceflight career spanning nearly two decades. He logged over 500 days in space across five missions and made history as the first Japanese commander of the ISS during Expedition 39.
