In order to get clearance to preserve wickets, star wicket-keeper batter Sanju Samson traveled to the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) Centre of Excellence (CoE). To get the full consent of the CoE managers, the Indian keeper-batter flew from Guwahati to Bengaluru on Monday, March 31. The Rajasthan Royals captain was initially only granted a temporary and partial clearance to play in the current IPL after undergoing surgery on his right index finger. He will now undergo testing by the CoE’s Sport Science wing and request authorization to resume his full responsibilities, according to the Cricbuzz report.
If Sanju is permitted to maintain wickets, he will also be reinstated as captain. Because of the partial clearance, he made Riyan Parag captain, and he played in all three of the Royals’ games this season as an Impact Player. Sources claim that now that his thumb injury has fully healed, he feels well enough to return to his wicket-keeping duties.
In three games where he only played as a batter without fielding, instead of as an Impact Player, Sanju has scored 66 against SRH, 13 against KKR, and 20 against CSK. Dhruv Jurel took wickets for the squad when he was away. The Indian star is expected to return to his captaincy and behind the stumps if the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) gives him the go-ahead.
The Royals have had a rough start to the IPL season, dropping their opening two matches before defeating the Chennai Super Kings in their opening match on Sunday night in Guwahati. On April 5, they will go to Ahmedabad to play the Punjab Kings, and on April 9, they will travel to Ahmedabad to play the Gujarat Titans. On April 13, the team will play their third home game against RCB at their former headquarters in Jaipur.
