Which Indian wedding trends are popular right now? Examining Current Preferences

Using data from more than 2,100 couples nationwide, WeddingWire India, a division of The Knot Worldwide, has published its most recent annual survey report. Key trends in the Indian wedding industry are highlighted by the poll, which includes a wide spectrum of couples with different backgrounds, income levels, and preferences.

Generational Trends in Weddings

Thirty is the average age at which a couple marries. There has been a discernible change in the tastes of different generations; 62% of couples are now Gen Z, which is 49% more than the previous year. 30% of married couples are millennials, although this group has shrunk by 54% from the previous year. Millennials still make up a sizable percentage of weddings, contributing to one in three events, notwithstanding this change.

Wedding Venue Costs

The cost of wedding venues has increased; on average, they now cost about ₹6 lakhs. Approximately 40% wedding couples spend ₹7.5 lakhs on their venue, while 31% pay above ₹10 lakhs. The significance of venue selection in determining the wedding experience is emphasized by this.

The most common months for engagements are February and December. 16% of couples report that their loved ones were present during their engagement, demonstrating the continued involvement of family and friends in proposal situations.

Wedding Planning Priorities

Although 53% of couples still consider money to be a significant consideration, it is no longer the key one. Couples are instead prioritizing food, drinks, and the visitor experience, which suggests that there is a growing need for excellent catering, entertainment, and hospitality.

Financial Insights: Wedding Expenses

The fact that couples spend an average of 21% of their yearly household income on their wedding shows how much money many are ready to spend on their special day.

Trends in Digital Wedding Communication

With 79% of couples sharing wedding details with friends and family via apps like WhatsApp, digital communication has become a crucial component of wedding planning. As technology plays a bigger part in the planning process, wedding websites are also becoming more and more popular as a tool for handling logistics.

“Weddings are becoming more than just customs; they are becoming unique, life-changing events,” said Snigdha Johar, Consumer Marketing Manager at WeddingWire India. By crafting memorable moments that showcase their individuality, couples are giving their big day a new twist. We are thrilled to use our poll to keep our suppliers and community up to date on the newest trends, ensuring they remain competitive and continue to provide what couples really desire.”

Personalized Weddings & Extended Celebrations

With 61% selecting unique attire, 27% incorporating eco-friendly features, and 21% preferring a private “first look” moment, couples are adding personal touches to their nuptials. In order to spend more time with loved ones, wedding celebrations are also getting longer—35% of them last three days, and 32% last four or more.
